First day of 2010!

  • Jan. 1st, 2010 at 1:01 PM

Hello!  I have been hibernating for the last few months.  I think I'm just beginning to surface again.  I quit sugar a week and a half ago, I managed 6 months last year, hah!  After monitoring my blood sugars like an obsessive compulsive nutjob, I found that I have high highs and low lows, and that I need to eat low GI foods to keep zen.  So that's what I'm up to, low GI, no sugar, and am feeling the pull to be vegan again, maybe later this year, lol.

Still working, still photographing, here is my Facebook photography page:  www.facebook.com/home.php

So here are my resolutions from last year, the red ones I have done, lol...
  • Koha 6 handmade gifts
  • Paint 3 canvas paintings
  • Create a family photo album
  • Unmould the ceilings, lol
  • Complete one paper towards my Postgrad Dip
  • Develop a genius savings plan
  • Serve dinner before 7pm each night 6 days a week
  • Have one TV free day each week
  • Stay sugar free for the entire year!  (Managed half, hah!)
  • Go to the gym at the very least 4 times a week
  • Have a clean and tidy kitchen before I retire for the evening 6 nights a week
  • Consider a washing cycle to be 'wash-dry-fold-put away' ;) so every Sunday evening, there should be no washing pile
  • Volunteer at the local maternity hospital to do bereavement photography  :(  Something I have felt I am meant to do.
  • Welcome a new Flemish Giant into our house...  Then it died, then we got a new one, a Giant/Dwarf cross (...I know, lol...)
  • Create a display of photos on the wall
  • Get jiggy wid it, lol, as often as I can
  • Wear a fascinator at least once a month
  • Own a matching set of bra and knickers
  • Indulge in wearing a cocktail dress at least once a month
  • Give a gift at Christmas time through charity
  • Add one item every grocery shop for the food banks
  • Hold 2 charity events, one for Aria, and one in Kyah's name
  • Wear make up!
  • Devise a 'Greedy List'
  • Grow an Inga Bean Plant
  • Complete my Knit Picks set
  • Make the spare room inhabitable...  (Got a cleaner, lol)
  • See a budget advisor
  • A full year of drinking 2 litres of water a day, just like the doctor told us
  • Limiting soft drinks...  What does that mean really?  I'll think on that, lol
  • Have a children's story accepted by MOE for school reading ;)
  • Knit a shalom
  • Lose a steady and healthy amount of weight (my goal weight is 30kg away)
  • Make something utterly involved and time consuming and that I love, and gift it to someone who won't appreciate it in the slightest.

Pretty crap, all in all!

I still got time tho.

And I am proud of me once more.  Here is what I have achieved this year:
  • was brave enough to go to a knitting weekend away with my internet friends (hah!!  I KNOW!!)  I forgot my knitting tho!
  • I got through an entire year of working full time and raising my family...  It's been damn hard tho!
  • Been promoted from team leader to Deputy Head Teacher
  • Photographed a couple of births this year
  • Photographed the recording of a gorgeous new album, and a music video
  • Have started learning the drums

One more thing...  I am still breathing and functioning after holding my Mum's hand through her final weeks, after a surprise cancer diagnosis.  I am hurting, but I am still going.  I think that's pretty incredible.  This year has been intense.  I held my Mum's hand as she died, and you know what?  I think she is still holding mine.

Been busy

  • Mar. 31st, 2009 at 9:12 PM

And not in a good way.  :(  Been working, loving that - exhausting but rewarding, and studying (minimally)...

The other thing I have been doing is visiting my mum in the hospital every evening after work.  A month ago she was admitted with suspected tuberculosis, unfortunately it is actually lung cancer, and they have her 8 weeks.  Of which we have had 4.

It sucks, absolutely.  Crazy much.  She's so damn sick, she can't enjoy her final weeks.

:D :D :D :D

It's from the first of January really, but I ate a toffee pop truffle that I made for Margo's Birthday, so can't count it.

Also pleasantly surprised upon reading my protein shake pack, no sugar, (very minimal artificial sweeteners though).  So haven't been sinning when I thought I was.

(Who is easily pleased)

Stupid dumb sugar.

  • Jan. 4th, 2009 at 2:16 PM

Dumb sugar cravings.

Anyway...  I spent a day recovering from two days of nesting.  Tomorrow I head out to work - Yay!!  (Scary!!)

Dug out the old laptop, and found photos of Izzy at Squish's age.  They look nothing alike!  It's funny.

What else...

Oh, I weighed myself today, and am still above what I was when I started at the gym, but 2 weeks of it being closed, I suspect I lost all the muscle also, lol....   New start though.  And no sugar, that's got to help, lol.  (I am such a lost cause!)

I'm going to keep adding to this.  :D  It feels so nice to indulge in the fantasy, lol...

Sweet as, bro...

  • Jan. 2nd, 2009 at 4:19 PM

I know.  It's hideous.  It's wrong and yucky and a sin and all that stuff.

This is the room whose door is always closed.
My hidden shame!

Well, shame no more, check out   MY  space!  (Not MySpace, this is LiveJournal, lol)...

(I am about to go and scrub those walls *ooops* )

AND...  In honour of my fabulous work, I am adding a proper vacuum cleaner to my Greedy List.  ;)

1st day of 2009!

  • Jan. 2nd, 2009 at 12:06 AM

It appears I am well on track, surpriserize!

Today I drank 1.5l of water (lol, not quite 2, just for you J!).

I was sugar free, aside from my protein shake in the morning.

I made the spare room inhabitable, and inhabited it!

Now I just need to sort out the um, spare room.  The new one.  That all the junk has been moved to, lol...

Also, and I am ultra proud of my me, I filled in the forms and have officially applied (although not yet sent off, lol) to study for my PGDipEd (EY).

Cooool.

I did the grocery shopping for a fortnight, and the only things with sugar in them at all, were G's cupcakes (hehe) and Izzy got a treat of chocolate soy milk.  And my protein bars.  I forgot to buy something specifically for the food bank - but will drop something in to the box (which is unhelpfully located at the small branch that I don't shop at, lol) on the weekend.

Speaking of the food bank box...  I phoned a few weeks ago to see if they take donations at my supermarket.  I got told I had to make an appointment with the manager!  OMG, crack me up, so I told them I didn't want to have food given to me, I wanted to donate it to charity from me, but yeah, I need to make an appointment with the manager, lol...  Looopy as.  I'll trot down to the same brand supermarket in the same suburb that isn't actually mutant and drop them in the box there.

I think I have a bad phone manner aye.  I phoned the Police Comms dept yesterday because I stopped at the lights near a petrol station and smelt natural gas really strongly.  The lady kept asking me if I thought it was a problem.  I had visions of a natural gas leak followed by a wild explosion.  I thought that was a problem.  Then I realised I had said that I smelt gas...  I elaborated...  She realised I wasn't a nutter phoning up to say I smelt petrol outside the petrol station, lol, as she had thought.

Ahhhh, good times.

I purchased powder for my face, and mascara for my elbows (as Squishy calls them).

And that was my day.  The first one of 2009, which I am hoping is a totally rocking and awesome year for each and every one of you!

I have.

  • Dec. 31st, 2008 at 6:34 PM

Resolutions are dandy, but I think it's just as important to reflect back and see what you have achieved each year.

I am proud of myself for:
  • Finishing my degree in style - B+ average, baby!
  • Committing to postgrad study
  • Joining the gym
  • Stepping out of my comfort zone
  • Developing my photography further
  • Raising two fabulous and beautiful daughters
  • Taking said daughters to swimming
  • Another awesome year with my gorgeous husband, through fun and difficulty
  • Managing a mental illness
  • Getting a job
  • Being a good friend, a good wife, a good mother and a damn decent person, lol
  • For being aware that my weight is an issue, even if I have managed to lose and keep off a single gram, lol

The Nana Pants

  • Dec. 31st, 2008 at 5:07 PM

So I went to KMart, thinking I'll buy some tops in which I don't look scandalously hot (you know, like I always do, lol)  (note I am being mutantly sarcastic, lol, not horrendously conceited!) to wear to work.

They caught my eye.

Brown, wrinkley, hanging...  Drawstring.  Elastic waist.  Brown.

I scooped them discretely into my shopping basket, reminiscent of a masterful shoplifter.  Looking around me to make sure no-one saw, I turned and shuffled head down to the changing rooms.

Once in, I debated in my head.  Should I?  Shouldn't I?  Deep breath, and I whipped off my skirt and slid one leg reluctantly after the other in.

As I pulled them up, their elastic waist caressed my curves, gently clinging; not indenting...  The crinkled fabric fell softly to the floor, hiding the flaws of my legs.  I slowly turned around, glancing critically, to see the elegantly flattered bottom reflecting back at me.

No, I can't, I thought as I hauled my own clothes back on...

I left the fitting room, and hung them back on the rack.  Lining up amidst the other shoppers, feeling their knowing eyes glaring accusingly at me, I tried to slink invisibly into the line.

Suddenly, my heart broke free from the shackles of my mind, I turned and hurriedly rushed to the rack, where they still waited patiently for me.

I picked them up with pride, and placed them in my basket, on top of the other items.

I joined the line.

I paid their discounted price.

I got to the car.

I put them on.

Today, it is with great pleasure and no shame, that I welcome The Nana Pants in to my life.  Crinkled polyester, never did I think you would become such an ally.

Shall I add pictures?  ;)
